Solar PV System Upgrades

Solar Panel Repair have been installing solar PV system upgrades since 2002 and we have helped hundreds of clients improve their solar systems.

From increasing the size and generating capacity of solar installations through to replacing old inefficient parts we can help you get the most our of your solar PV system.

What typical solar PV upgrades do we complete?

There are a wide range of reasons that you may be considering solar PV upgrades, for example if since you had your solar PV panels installed, any large objects have been erected e.g. neighbour’s extension, TV aerials, trees etc, the shading from these objects could be detrimental to your annual generation if your PV panels are now being shaded.

Shading can substantially reduce the annual output, subject to what type of inverter you have had installed. If this is the case, there are solutions to help maximise your PV system that can be retrofitted so please contact us for more information.

Solar Panel Upgrades

One method to upgrade your solar system is to add more panels or replace panels that are not performing well.

Adding additional panels is dependent upon how much space you have to accommodate extra panels and how much weight the roof can support as well.

Our team of installers will check this before we recommend any upgrades to your system.

Solar Inverter Upgrade

Another way to upgrade your system is to buy a new inverter, subject to whether your existing one is still working or not. If you’re adding extra panels, you will probably need a new inverter that is capable of dealing with the increased output.

The two main options are:

  • Micro-inverters which are connected to the panels themselves and come with a lifespan of 25 years but have a larger upfront cost and scaffolding is also needed.
  • SolarEdge voltage optimised panels although these also come with a larger upfront cost due to scaffolding requirements.
  • String inverters have an average lifespan of 12-15 years and are the cheaper option. String inverters work with most panel system sizes but this is subject to how the original panels were strung/installed.

Solar Battery Upgrades

The final popular way to upgrade your solar system is to add battery storage. Excess electricity generated by the solar PV system that the house doesn’t use at the time of generation would be diverted to a battery.

Some battery systems will also allow you to top up on cheap overnight electricity so you can discharge it into the house when the electricity rate is higher. We recommend a battery system be sized to your annual electricity usage to ensure the best benefit so please talk to us about the options.

What does it cost to upgrade a solar PV system?

How much it costs depends on what upgrades you want or need. Solar Panel Repair have upgraded hundreds of solar PV systems for customers across the South East and this is because we provide expert solar PV system upgrades at a reasonable price.

The best way to find out how much upgrading your solar PV system is to contact us for a no obligation discussion so that we can understand your needs to then provide you with an estimate of how much it is likely to cost.
